This government is doing incalculable harm to the administrative fabric of nation by not standing up for officers in the department. Contrast this with Sardar Patel or Lal Bahadur Shastri..
>> "People look at PC,Pranab,Sibal & co. and dont see distinguished men of great accomplishments etc. " - Sudha
Very well said. MMS, PC, Sibal are all men of great education and intellect. It is sad as well as frustrating to see them act and behave this way.
The important thing here is the disconnect between people's perceptions and what the Congress wants to believe.
People look at PC,Pranab,Sibal & co. and dont see distinguished men of great accomplishments etc. They see cyncial men who have learnt to work the system and are probably corrupt. They see them as spin masters divorced from the truth.
These guys looked like schoolboys forced to do what their Head Mistress and Class Teacher made them do. Honesty and transparency have become unknown qualities for all our politicians
>> I would like to see his answers under oath. We will know for sure what he knew and when.
You're assuming he shall say the truth under oath?
This is the guy who lied about being a resident of Assam to get into Rajya Sabha. You expect him to speak the truth in court, just because he took an oath? Good luck.
>> One trick was missed by both PC and Pranab-they should have branded the Deputy Director as a RSS agent.
Their lackeys shall do it on their behalf.
"The policy of the Government in 2007-2008 was continuation of the policy adopted in October 2003 and as reiterated by TRAI"
One thing everyone has forgotten about this. Kapil Sibal, in dec 2010, had accused the NDA govt of causing an actual loss of 1.43 lakh crores.
http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/nda-caused-1-43-lakh-crore-loss-says-kapil-sibal-74097
So now if Pranab wants to take cover under a policy of NDA, he should explain why his govt approved a policy that caused 1.43 lakh crores to the exchequer. Why no action was taken to probe the loss? After all, the govt lost no time in investigating Shourie over the disinvestment issue.
One trick was missed by both PC and Pranab-they should have branded the Deputy Director as a RSS agent. If not willing to go that far, they should have at least said that the Sangh elements in the various ministries conspired to bring down PC in order to stop the investigation against the saffron terror and that they are united in fighting the communalist menace.
What has happened to Congress? They missed a golden opportunity.
"Going by Mr Mukherjee's last line, it is obvious that the government's defence is going to be to stick to its earlier articulated position of no revenue loss because of policy and that Mr Raja's crime was in implementation."
If no loss occurred, then what is wrong with the implementation?
"realise that the government would not be able to survive the loss of an additional minister to the 2G scam, and that too someone as senior as Mr Chidambaram."
I do think the Congress can survive the loss of PC. It will be tough but can be done. But let us see. Much would depend on what the SC says.
"he next in line to be targeted would certainly be the Prime Minister himself who has wanted to stay at 'an arm's length"
If SC decides favorably on Swamy's petition, then it will definitely reach the PM. I wish he is called as a witness. I would like to see his answers under oath. We will know for sure what he knew and when.
" As a result of the ministers not providing cover, more and more bureaucrats are going to fight shy of articulating their opinions freely".
Who are Orwells pigs here? Buraucrats or ministers. Better if all the bureaucrats like Orwells pigs just open the Pandoras box of corruption once for all and settle it as Animal Farm 2011-2012.
".....only confirmed the rift that the Congress and UPA spokespersons and even the PM had been denying and dismissing as rumours spread by opposition through the last eight days." The spokespersons as well as the PM were quite right in pooh-poohing the gravity of the rift. The whole problem was the indignation of PC and his perception that he was being put at risk. When he was reassured by all the senior members of the cabinet that the bureaucratic sentence in the note was not a ministerial summation and that it had a much more benign denotation than it might appear, the matter ended. I am of course speaking without first hand knowledge, but so is everybody else.
A portrait of hard boiled crooks.
All chapters closed or considered closed by PC open up like a can of worms and take a big victim. This time it may be......MMS
