There was nothing new in Rahul Dravid's speech. My view is that a better assessment of Rahul Dravid and his contemporaries as cricketers and individuals could be made after some years, when they fade out of lime light. But at present, my best wishes to Rahul Dravid for a healthy and happy life, post retirement. One feels that it would have been so wonderful had three batting greats, (other two being Sachin Tedulkar & VVS Laxman), were in good form at the same time in more matches. One big disappointment is that when these three were making runs, our bowlers did not contribute as much and as a team we failed to take advantage of three batsmen’s contribution on many occasions when we could have won matches.
For me, who has been following Rahul Dravid's career for the past 16 years, the retirement was a sad moment. Unlike Rahul Dravid, I did not agonize over the few dropped catches, or like the media on the recent 'clean bowled!', for me it was the run outs! However, there was always another innings, another game, another match.... until the retirement announcement, which I guess has been perfectly timed like all his shots. ALL THE BEST, RAHUL DRAVID! If you do visit Dubai, it will be an honour and a pleasure to host you at home for a meal that will include mushrooms, onions and garlic. Our best wishes to all the family members.
