Ever time I see her actions it makes me feel sad for as much as I feel for the people of Bengal.

The truth is she will continue to be CM for the next 4 years and Thanks to the legacy of the Marsists and spineless Congress she will get away.

Ask any Professional and he will tell you what her problem is.In India you dont get to see any one stand up and tell that to her.

May be Bengal is destined to face this day, wonder what all those journos from Bengal are doing about this,Mr Katju had said press in Gujrat isnt free and the same in Bihar ,does he justify her actions, hasnt said a word.

Did these people dare use such derisive languages against Jyothi Basu who single handedly destroyed Bengal? These so called intellectuals are blatantly selective in attacking political leaders.Mamatha will never be a destructive leader, like the communists who brought only death and destruction to a once glorious state.

it is better to kick west bengal out of indian federation. wb will bring an end to indian State. write it on the wall. they gave british a base first and then naxals, communists and now dictators. bengal has 25 percent muslims after partition and partition, more political murders happen in bengal than any other state, muslims are worse economically compared to gujarat. give them freedom to save the rest of india.

Did these people dare use such derisive languages against Jyothi Basu who single handedly destroyed Bengal?

This is in true tradition of Indian politicians who think themselves demi-gods. Late in the nineties when a marwari boy sent a few mails to his freinds criticising  Jyoti Basu, the man was arrested, convicted & actually sentenced to jail. A few JNU boys were picked up in the middle of the night for circulating cartoons of Vajpayee. No carpet to carpet coverage in the media.

The professor was at no good. He impersonated from a different mail address than his own & sent the slightly defamatory mail to 64 people with suggestive insinuation that the railways are a gold mine. One do not need much imagination what that means. And collecting mailadress of 64 persons with whom he is not in regular mail communication takes some doing , some planning. Coincidentally he was also mixed up in dispute with suppliers with whom he got in to a quarrel. Some of the recipients - including a few women - of the mail first protested this unsolcited mail.

Mamata enraged the corporate media on the following counts

> Blocking the land reform bill.

> Blocking FDI in retail

> GST

> opposing SEZ

> Federal powers at the cost of state autonomy

> Lay down time frame for utiliaston of land given to projects which are not even in the drawing boards  even after five years. ( In Bengal itself almost 50000 acres of land was given to industry @ throwaway prices uprooting by force  their original owners for setting up steel plants; None of these steel plants are even in planning stage)

Without being judgemental on merits of the issues involved , it must be said that each of the above are top of the agenada of  Manmoahan Singh government & therefore on top of corporate wish list. Let Mamata remove her road blocks & she will turn darling of the media overnight.

Attempts will be made to rattle her & come round to media laid down agenda. Mamata will have to stop being on short fuse or they will destroy her with smear campagn. As it is she already did some good work -

> Primarily is she brought a semblance of governance in Maoist affected areas.

> She difused the agitation in the hills simmering for how many years God only knows. Tourists are retuning to the hills & economy there reviving.

> Put all state tax assessment & collection on line totally avoiding personal interaction & corruption. ( She is extremely tech-savy , rare among politicians )

> Totally stopped political influence peddling in  bureaucratic & police  postings.

> Appointments in educational institutions used to be decided at party offices. This practice came to full stop & has been left to the academia.

> Policing in cities & countryside has improved

> Lot of decentralisation of bureaucaratic powers has occured resulting in speedy implimenation of anti-poverty programmes.

> Enforced pay-cuts for striking employees.

> Improved MGNREGA implementation from abysmal 15 % to 35 %.

> Loss making state transport companies has been put closure notice unless they earn their own up-keep. Their earnings improved radically.

> Calcutta traffic are much better managed. One menace in Calcutta streets are auto-drivers. These hooligans has been tamed.

The predominant media house which is spearheading these smear campaigns is powerful. They own not only the media, they are also leading publishers in the  country both in English & vernacular. The so called intellectuals can hardly afford to go against the agenda of this house. There is an ongoing boom in media business in Bengal - both print & audio-visual. That must be hurting their bottom-line.

One must also understand at least two generations of police & government employees owing allegeance to a particular political party infiltrated the state apparatus & set up their own little money making nests. They are  the ones who are also hurt. So they made it their mission to find faults.

That said Mamata is the one who wears the pants both in her party & government. She always had megalomaniac streak. She  must guard herself against psychphants & favour seekers.

Mamata gone nuts or not,  old man Asish Nandy looks finally a little senile.

" As it is she already did some good work -

> She difused the agitation in the hills simmering for how many years God only knows. Tourists are retuning to the hills & economy there reviving." -

The reality here is right opposite.

In the north she has played directly into the hands of the Gurkha extortionists by signing up for GTA, a prelude to the emergence of Gurkhaland as a breakaway or the third partition of Bengal.

These Gurkhas were coming to the hills in the north Bengal as squatters in search of a livelihood for a long time.  Post 1947 the flow of Gurkhas grew into a flood due to desperate economic conditions in their homeland taking advantage of an open border between Nepal and India. They started displacing the locals by strong arm tactics given a free hand by the Centre closing their eyes on the problem. In fact, as reported in TOI, some years back many Gurkhas were driven out of Bhutan by the Bhutanese and took refuge in Darjeeling area.

Now all these thugish people are claiming their statehood "Gurkhaland" there with Mamata's blessing.  My forefathers from Calcutta built a residence in Kurseong, one station down from Darjeeling, in 1920s. Even I cannot go back and live there if I wished, since these Gurkhas have become a menace to the Bengalis all over the hills area.

On another front, Mamata has ushered in full scale Islamisation of Bengal by her sops to the Imams - more Madrassas to be funded, free land for building mosques and so on as reported in the news,  but no word for appointing Sanskrit Pandits in the vacant posts of the schools.

And Urdu as a second language in Bengal - you must be joking !!!

History will judge Mamata more harshly than CPM for presiding over the final demise of Bengal as a "traitor" to the remaining true (Hindu) Bengalis, unless there is immediate corrective action taken without any hesitation.

Further to my post.

"The professor was at no good.... "

Anyone with some afterthought could figure out that the arrest and beating by the Trinumul thugs of the hapless Professor Mahapatro had absolutely nothing to do with the cartoon as per se, which is not the case here in the forum. Hence it warrants elaboration.

The two gentlemen, Mahapatro and Sengupta, happen to be the office bearers of their Housing Cooperative and there lies the problem.  In all such housing complexes in Calcutta, illegal constructions, money laundering, arm twisting for payments to building contractors and promoters for shonky jobs etc,  have been going on for many years. Mahapatro and Sengupta have been the target of the real estate mafia for some time since they blocked payment of some lakhs of rupees to those goondas where no service and building work has been done. Hence they were warned.  When the opportunity came, the cartoon episode was used as an excuse to teach them a lesson and send a shivering message to all others in the housing cooperatives who would stand up to these real estate thugs.

Amazingly, these thugs got clearance from the highest level of TMC for their criminal act. Whilst it is true that Mamata herself does not accept bribe, she turns a blind eye to her party mafia - which is after all the same Congress in Delhi - to hang on to power.  It recalls in an uncanny way her dressing down of Damayanti some days back. Mamata will have to pay for it. Her honeymoon with the Bengal intelligentsia, who hoisted her to power with tremendous good will, is now over.

It is going to be all downhill from now on for Bengal, unless the electorate can dislodge her from power very soon and banish her to political oblivion. Force must be met with force. In any case, as I have said, her sell out of the rights and interests of the true Bengalis in the hills is looming up as the biggest disaster and I am affraid Bengal will not survive in the long run as a state. She is a coward - she is afraid  and ashamed to address the Gurkhas in Darjeeling in Bengali, she tries to speak broken Nepali there. Even Jyoti Basu would not have ruined the Bengalis in that way.

I am waiting now to see Mamata coming out wearing a burkha. A Bengali has to be bankrupt intellectually to accept Urdu as an official language in their state.

A few stray remarks on the unfortunate state called West Bengal,or Bonga.Communists are supposed to alleviate poverty, but still it required a woman with unpronounsable name from the poorest of European countries,Albania  to come and serve the poor.I am no Christopher Hitchens to talk about the real intentions of Mother Teresa. The number of huge mosques that have come up during the regime of Jyothi Basu will put even Bangladesh to shame.Supreme court gave a clear judgement that early moring muzzein calls should immediately be stopped. But,the communist government had no guts to implement that order.Bangladesh has retained more Hindu culture than W.Bengal.At the inaugural function of world cup cricket in Dhaka,it was all Hindu mythology in action, including even a Ram firing his arrow. To mention another incident, the students of Presidency college destroyed a temple used by the employees there, but were cowards enough not to touch a mosque in the same vicinity. In yet another case, out of 100 students, only 10 could write their own names in Bengali,so much for degradation in Bengali pride.Possibly i am writing only nonsence from distant Bangalore but somehow it hurts.

After I posted (#17/D-35) I came across the following TOI report on this matter:

"Professor arrest: Attackers unaware of email"

timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/kolkata-/Professor-arrest-Attackers-unaware-of-email/articleshow/12682568.cms

This should corroborate in depth what I wanted to convey.  The following lines are eye opening for what transpired:

"the accused worked as contractors and building material suppliers for the complex and were upset since they had not been paid for a long time. Mahapatra, as assistant secretary of the housing society's board of directors, had detected several inconsistencies in bills submitted by them and refused to pay them unless revised bills were submitted. ... Some local Trinamool leaders have allegedly been eyeing this housing complex for long. A leaflet circulated by New Garia Samabay Abashan Unnayan Mancha - reportedly a Trinamool-backed organization - mentions it as a 'treasure trove'. ...Interestingly, one of the attackers owns a plot in the complex. ...
As these Trinamool leaders tried to cash in ...,... they first tried to terrorise the society office-bearers. But that didn't work. It was then that they raked up the chain mail issue to allegedly force East Jadavpur police to start a case (Case No. 50/2012 dated April 12, 2012) to get Mahapatra and Subrata Sengupta arrested."

This is the tip of iceberg but dynamite for Mamata spearheading TMC !

And as per 10/D-87

"> Totally stopped political influence peddling in bureaucratic & police postings."

I wonder whether right thinking people have such short memories as to overlook the incident widely reported by all media relating to the dressing down of the police officer Damayanti Sen by Mamata herself when the officer was left visibly shaken. This demolishes the above claim in toto. Damayanti has performed her duty faultless and with superb expertise.

The Chief Minister needs to develop a sense of humour and thicker skin. As a politician (male or female) it’s expected that some may use humour to disagree and express their opinion. One can only see this charge (likely filed by a groveling courtier) as a clear sign of insecurity and incipient delusions of grandeur! This is a vexatious charge designed to intimidate and bully a citizen to submission. Politicians would do well to remember, that pride comes before a fall.

Soon you may see other politicians to follow in her footsteps. Kapil Sibal was much ahead of Mamatha , we should not forget that. His eyes roamed around in the internet for Sonia Ji only and found a few cartoons outrageous.

But in this Mamata cartoons , she should get angry only if she had no sense of humour !
Jayalalitha was not very different from Mamata but she had no history of exhibiting hysteria over a cartoon at least.

Mamata would not want to have anything to do with, and even know about, Dr Binayak Sen when he was in prison ("for life") in Chattisgarh on trumped up charges. But when Dr Sen won his first hurdle in the Supreme Court by getting a bail, his profile soared to Himalayan heights in the international political world at large and he won huge accolade the world over.

Now to cash in on Dr Sen,  Mamata wants Dr Sen to approach her.  This wicked woman has flagged that she will give a hearty welcome to him!

In support of what I have referred to as Islamisation in full-swing unleashed under Mamata's directive, the following news just appeared is pertinent to quote:

 thestatesman.net/index.php

Task force for imams’ welfare formed
18 April 2012
KOLKATA, 18 APRIL: The department of minority affairs and Madrassah education has formed a task force for the welfare of imams of the state.
The task force is headed by retired Justice Md Abdul Ghani, who is the chairperson of Wakf Board and it comprises 27 members. It may be recalled that the state government had offered a monthly honorarium of Rs 2,500 to each imam through the Wakf Board. The task force will be helped by district magistrates ....

However, several organisations of Hindu priests and teachers of Chatuspathi Sanskrit schools are dissatisfied as state government have not declared any package for them. They too had demanded a monthly honorarium. Several organisation alleged that neither the Left Front government nor the present regime did anything to develop the economic condition of the Sanskrit teachers, who run Chatuspathi Sanskrit tolls (small Sanskrit educational institutions). To save the cultural heritage of the country, Sanskrit education is required but people are losing interest in these tolls as the teachers are reeling under severe economic crisis and shunning this profession, said a teacher."

A virulent onslaught on Hinduism is underway now to say the least. It remains to be seen how long the Bengali language as a descendent of Sanskrit will survive.  The day is not that far when Urdu will take over from Bengali. No wonder that the heritage of Tagore is being pulled down to the level of gutter as evident from playing his tunes at bus stops.

I do not see an iota of difference between the CPM rule of Jyoti Basu and the present TMC of Mamata in their destructive path for the state.

Reading through my postings here, I found that I have not addressed one quote fully although I did referr to it: Hence, I feel I should have a go at it lest I am held misleading in the context. That quote is actually the following:

"Tourists are retuning to the hills & economy there reviving." - MANISH BANERJEE KOLKATA  10/D-87

The question must be asked for whose benefit "economy there is striving",  if at all !

The only answer I could  extract scratching my head is:

for the benefit of the Nepali Gurkhas there - the squatters who usurped the land and rights of the original Bengalis by strong arm tactics displacing them and even the lepchas living there from time immemorial !

Now Nepali language is "used" there, not Bengali. Mamata struggles to give a speech there in Nepali, as reported in the press.  No playing of Rabindrasangeet in Darjeeling !

As I have noted, I cannot go back in Darjeeling where my forefathers had built their summer residence. Even a medical clinic to serve the locals in the long past.  I would be evicted then by strong arm of these Nepalis.

And these Gurkha thugs coming there as squatters in the past were stopping any car at the entrance of the hills which had a WB number plate, as reported in  the news sometime back. They have pulled down all road signs and posters which were in Bengali script in the past.

And Mamata has blessed them now with her signing GTA. She carefully avoided all the meetings called by the local Bengalis in Siliguri and surrounding area to disclose the specifics in that GTA !

The true Bengalis in the hills area are up in arms against Mamata for selling out Bengals's rights and interests to these Nepalis.

As a Bengali, I feel that one must have lost own's identity to uphold the economic uplift in the hills, if there has been in real terms. since Mamata came to power, as performance measure of her and flaunt in the open.

The future looks bleak for the Bengalis now.  Amen!

To clarify one point I have harped on in my posts, there is a bit of history to recall for those who are not oriented on Darjeeling and the mountainous country side in north Bengal.  This will expose Mamata's "forked tongue" just like that of a snake.

At the time of partition in 1947, there was a Hills Council in the State's administration in place to make decision relevant to local issues.  And there was some autonomy in that regard for that Council since the issues for the hills owing to its topography bear no resemblance to the plain and hence unique.

That Hills Council operated just like a district (or panchyat?) of a province and survived in its original name until Mamata appeared in the scene.  As the influx of Nepali Gurkhas increased in 1950s and 1960s, who moved in as squatters first, they started some political movement to create an enclave of their own people and wanted to change that name "Hills Council" for something with the qualification of "Gurkha".

The introduction of the epithet "Gurkha" has definite connotations - as if the territory there belonged in some sense to the Gurkhas.  No CM of Bengal agreed to that.  Even Jyoti Basu, who is widely regarded as the vilain,  had outright rejected that changing of naming in favour of smuggling in "Gurkha" sensing what was a foot.

But when Mamata got elected, she immediately agreed to the name change to GTA - Gurkha Terrotorial Act - in support of these newly arrived Nepalis and in defiance of all local Bengali protests. She even gleefully explained to the audience in Calcutta television: what does it matter in a name?

Now look at her hypocrisy and her devious nature.  She insisted to change the name of "West Bengal" to "Paschimbongo", explaining in the TV that there wiil be an advantage for the State since the letter "P" precedes "W", and in some sense gets preference in many occasions over other states when one is called up to give a presentation.

This should drive home to all uninformed neutral observers how devious Mamata is - she makes her move with her forked tongue like that of a snake as it suits her agenda.

The Gurkhas have tasted blood now and it is a matter of time that there will be full scale agitation unleashed for the creation of a new state "Gurkhaland" from northern Bengal. Inevitably thiere will be the third partition of original Bengal in due course under the blessing of Mamata.
