ALL religions need to be put in their place.
The US schools were wrong to implement an unscientific practice in schools.
Contrary to common sense, Yoga is actually religious practice and not merely a system of physical exercise. The practice shown in the accompanying picture is 'Asana' which is one of the eight 'limbs' of Yoga, the culmination of which is 'Samadhi' which is merging of the individual soul, mind and body with the Divine soul.
So it is natural that Christianity, which teaches that salvation is to be found only through grace of God and is not merited by works, is incompatible with Yoga. So too, Islam. There are Indian religious traditions (for e.g. Odiya Vaishnavism) that would strongly discourage Hatha Yoga on the same grounds.
Only superficial cosmopolitan types would be offended or even surprised at Christian/Muslim opposition to Yoga.
Ashokji .... "... but a way of Scientific living."
This is a new one. I don't see much of science on display in our daily lives. Of course there might be someone else to blame for all this but us but then again .....
The US separation of "church and state" is very strong .... so if this is a public school it is not a surprise. We can get US style separation of "church and state", I would be thrilled but then I might be unscientifically dreaming of the impossible (and I understand given our history).
Muslim fundamentalists in India talk the same Language as being talked by Evangelical Christians. ***Yoga is a pure Human Body Science. This System is so perfect that it has both Preventive and Curative effects on the human body. But these fundamentalist will not accept the depth of this Science because this has come a country which preaches Hinduism forgetting that Hnduism is not a religion but a way of Scientific living.
Evangelical Christians are just like the RSS and the Talibans.
