There are several youtube videos of this ritual practiced in Solapur region of Maharashtra in which infants are apparently tossed from a height of 50 feet onto a thin bedsheet held by devotees just above the ground in the belief that it brings them good health and luck. Recent TV coverage forced women and child development minister Krishna Tirath to promise action against such superstition and customs.  National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) says they have issued a notice to the Sholapur district magistrate as well as Maharashtra government.
