Like the first commenter said, theres no right freedom just a sence of it to keep the people happy. Once everything cools down they will start passin bills and laws that strip more of your freedom away. The USA Patriot Act is one example of this it broadly expands law enforcement's surveillance and investigative powers and represents one of the most significant threats to civil liberties, privacy and democratic traditions in U.S

Even though we have been a republic for 60 years, we still need to reflect on the words of Dr Benjamin Franklin who, when asked at the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, " Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?", replied, "A republic, if you can keep it.”

Guha's caution about the corruption and criminality of our political class, the corruption and corrosion of our legal system, and the increasingly self-serving nature of our Press is appropriate. As he says, " Rather than brag about how much more democratic we are than China, we should pay attention to how far Indian democracy, c. 2011, falls short of the ideals envisaged and the standards laid out by our own Constitution in 1950."
 

India had no respectfrom outside world when we were a colony of the British empire.Now,we don't have respect being ruled by an Italian barmaid with no self respect.

Independence day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Nehru Jayanti et al seems to me a deliberate tactics by so called secular parties so that people can keep on believing on these lines of freedom/ constitution/ Satya/ Ahimsa etc, while rest 360 days of year the seculars can keep changing the laws/ rules as it suits them, lie mindlessly as required and supress the very thought of freedom.
