The last of the great male singers is gone. So long and thanks for the songs.
Good bye ; Manna Da!
"Tu Pyar Ka Sagar hai Teri ek Bundu ke pyase hum" from Movie Seema is still one of my favourite song.....
Manna Dey and his immortal songs belongs to the pan Indian population all over the world, and Kolkata has been denied his last journey to eternity. R.I.P. Manna Da.
Thanks for the Music show!
What Kishore Kumar is to Amitabh Bachchan, it seems Manna Dey had to be to Raj Kapoor. Mukesh is very ethereal, and very different, and it seems that Raj Kapoor wanted India to listen to a very unusual Punjabi voice. In fact, Mika, the personality and voice from the Punjab, evokes a similar strain of thought, but had a very different voice. Mika should be singing the very exquisite, and unimaginable Sufi songs of the Punjab.
However, it seems Manna Dey had the same voice as Kishore Kumar, but a different aspect to the song. In the movie Padosan, both Manna Dey and Kishore Kumar sang the same song, but the voices were very distinctive. Perhaps the song, 'Aao twist karein', was asked to be sung by Kishore Kumar, but no one could be Manna Dey, and Kishore Kumar knew this the best.
